FBI has opened 300 'domestic terror' investigations as a result of riots, attorney tells Capitol hearing on Antifa
The FBI has opened more than 300 domestic terrorism investigations since George Floyd's death in Minneapolis kicked off nationwide unrest and riots, a federal attorney revealed Tuesday in a hearing on Capitol Hill on Antifa and violent protests.

Democrats refuse to condemn Antifa in domestic terrorism hearing, Andy Ngo says
Ngo claims Democrats 'struggle' to draw a line against the far-left
Tensions ran high at a Senate hearing on Antifa on Tuesday as Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, blasted Democrats for not condemning the leftist extremist group more directly for the violence that has erupted in certain U.S. cities in the wake of George Floyd's death in Minneapolis.
Andy Ngo, a conservative journalist from Portland who has documented the movements of Antifa for years and was allegedly attacked by members of the group in 2019, said they have 'mastered the art of making its violence appear innocuous.'
“I don't think Congress currently is equipped to handle domestic terrorism because it's so politicized and that's very dangerous for this country,” said Ngo, who testified as a witness on Tuesday’s hearing.
During the hearing, there was a refusal by Democrats to condemn Antifa, according to Ngo.
“I think Republicans have by and large done a very good part with speaking very honestly and openly about far-right extremism and making sure that the sort of world views and ideologies of racist extremist movements don't find root in grounding in the mainstream conservative movement,” Ngo told Fox News. “Whereas Democrats really struggle with drawing the line on where they feel okay about far-left extremism. As of right now, I don't see them drawing the line anywhere.”
There are two contrasting narratives being painted about the realities of what is taking place in Portland and around the country, said Ngo.
“If you listen to the local press in Portland, the establishment media, they will talk about how things are peaceful everywhere else around outside of this area. If you follow my work and you see the videos I put up through myself or through tweets from others, that's absolutely not the case,” explained Ngo.
According to the Portland journalist, the notion that the riots and violence have stopped is a falsely painted picture by the ‘mainstream media.'

2020.04.18 06:43 Quirky-Motor EXTENSIVE write up- the disappearance of Cody Haynes

Hello everyone,
Recently, I did a few EXTENSIVE write ups on the cases of DeOrr Kunz, and Asha Degree, which many readers seemed to enjoy. I also did a shorter write up about a girl named Teekah Lewis, who unfortunately did not have as much coverage. Teekah’s story is somewhat local to me so I was happy to share her story, but today I wanted to share a case that hits very close to home. A story that transpired a few miles from my front door. This is the story of the disappearance of Richard “Cody” Haynes.
Description
· Missing Since 09/12/2004
· Missing from Kittitas, Washington
· Classification Endangered Missing
· Sex Male
· Race White
· Date of Birth 04/16/1993 (27)
· Age 11 years old
· Height and Weight 5'0 - 5'1, 90 pounds
· Clothing/Jewelry Description A red hat and a red or gray coat.
· Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Brown hair, blue eyes. Richard is addressed by his nickname, Cody. He has a round birthmark on his inner right thigh.
At the time of his disappearance Cody was eleven years old, a sixth grader. He was described by his father as a deceitful child who needed discipline. Other family members remember Cody as outdoorsy, rambunctious, and friendly if not overly social. His grandmother described him as typical kid of his age.
Background
Richard Lee Haynes Jr., who went by the nickname Cody, was born in Littleton, Colorado to Lisa Doney and Richard Haynes Sr. on 04/16/1993 (Crime watchers, 2020). By 1999 Cody’s parents were no longer together and Cody was living with his mother in Florida. In October of 1999 Cody’s mother was jailed for child abuse and he along with his sisters were placed with their father (AP article, 2004- Fox News link below). Lisa was not allowed legally to contact her son for any purpose (Spokesman Review November, 2004).
In December of that year Cody, his father, and his father’s girlfriend moved to the small eastern Washington town of Kittitas (Chrysalis Chapter article, 2018). Kittitas is a small community with 1100 residents. It is isolated, flat, and windy. There is a grocery/car repai fishing supplies all in one called “Johnny’s”, a school, a post office, and a few random businesses There are no banks or fast food restaurants. ( Photo here- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kittitas,_Washington#/media/File:Kittitas_Washington_ Skyline.jpg). The primary profession in Kittitas is farming hay. The police department has only two employees.
Ten miles down the road is the larger town of Ellensburg, Washington, home to Central Washington University. At the time of Cody’s disappearance Ellensburg was home to 17,000 people, 10,000 of whom were college students. The town of CleElum lies 25 miles west of Ellensburg and boasts a population of 1,800. These are the only settlements of note in the county, which is situated in the middle of Washington state along interstate 90 (Spokesman Review November, 2004). I hope this gives everyone a frame of reference to understand the type of area we are talking about.
The life in Washington State
Cody and his father moved to Kittitas, Washington where they lived in a two story, two-bedroom apartment in downtown Kittitas with Richard Sr.’s girlfriend Marla Jaye Harding and Cody’s four older sisters (Spokesman Review November, 2004). It is unclear when Marla came into the picture, but the couple was not married at any point before Cody went missing. At least one of Cody’s older sisters, Samantha Dobbs (nee Haynes) was a half-sister (NBC, 2012). I am unsure of his other three sisters’ relation to him and it is unclear if any (or all) of the girls Cody lived with were Lisa’s children.
In the home, the girls slept in one bedroom and the Cody and his parents slept in the other bedroom. For whatever reason, there was no door on the master bedroom, it opened straight to the hallway. The home was not in a traditional apartment building but rather it was a dwelling in the upper levels of a business. There was a yard behind the property (Spokesman Review November, 2004). Neighbors occasionally saw the four girls playing in the back yard but rarely saw the boy outside. One neighbor reported that he did not even know a boy lived in the residence (Chrysalis Chapter article, 2018). Thinking he knew every child in town, police chief Steve Dunnagan of Kittitas was also surprised to hear that a little boy lived just blocks from the police station, because he did not know or even recognize Cody.
In late 1999 Marla Jaye Harding (occasionally called Marla Jane Harding or Marla Harding- Haynes) worked as a social worker in Ellensburg and Richard Sr., who goes by Rick, worked as a Tow Truck Driver at D&M towing in Ellensburg (Spokesman Review November, 2004). In 2001 Cody went to school in Kittitas where a CPS call was made for child neglect, physical, and mental abuse. Cody was pulled out of that school and began going to school in Ellensburg. In 2002 another CPS call was made for similar reasons. Both reports were taken but the file was closed without Rick ever losing his children (The Charley Project, 2004 and Crime watchers, 2020). At some point, neighbors of the family reported that they saw the children outside without in the winter without shoes or coats, but it is unclear when this was reported (Crime watchers, 2020).
According to her own LinkedIn account Marla was fired in 2003 (LinkedIn, 2013). Court records from early 2004 show that Marla Harding was fired from her job due to misconduct and she was unable to receive unemployment due to the circumstances of her dismissal (Kitsap Sun November, 2004). It does not appear Marla got another job after this. (Some sources say that Marla lost her job in 2001- this is false. It was 2003-2004).
The Disappearance
On September 11th, 2004 at around 8 pm Cody was asked to do the dishes by his step mother while his father was at work (Kitsap Sun November, 2004). Cody refused and Harding made the boy sit at the kitchen table for four hours as punishment. At around midnight he was sent to his room to continue his punishment. Around this time was the last time Cody’s sisters ever saw him (Kitsap Sun November, 2004). Cody’s father returned from work around 12 am but left at 2:30 am to go look for car parts. (More info on the trip in the other things section). (The Charley Project, 2004 and Kitsap Sun November, 2004). At this point in the early morning one neighbor reported that Rick’s van was running in the backyard. The van was pulled up to the shed and the noise from the car starting up had woken the neighbor’s baby, which is why she remembered the incident.
The next morning Cody’s sisters awoke to a ring of chairs around the master bedroom’s doorway. A note on the chairs said that Cody’s sisters were to stay away from Cody’s room because he was grounded and had to stay in there for a while. The girls were allowed to watch movies all day, but they never saw Cody (Chrysalis Chapter article, 2018).
At 4 pm, Rick returned from his journey for car parts a full 14 hours after he left (Kitsap Sun November, 2004). He and Marla checked on Cody between 4 and 5 pm on September 12th for the first time, only to find him gone. At 6:30 pm they called the police to report that Cody had run away from home (Chrysalis Chapter article, 2018). Rick suggested to the police that Cody may have run away to see his mother in Florida (The Daily Record, Dec. 2004). Authorities found Cody’s bike and a bag of clothes hidden in a shed behind the home, so they were suspicious of the runaway theory (Chrysalis Chapter article, 2018). Rick would not allow his daughters to be questioned, either (Kitsap Sun November, 2004). When it came to light that no adult had checked on Cody for close to 18 hours, Rick’s four daughters were removed from the home and placed into foster care on September 21st. Social services reportedly took the children away based on lack of supervision in the home, and abuse for not allowing Cody to eat, drink, or use the toilet while he was being disciplined, although it appears the bathroom was attached to Cody’s room (The Charley Project, 2004).
At first the girls had nothing to say about the night Cody disappeared, but later (early 2005) interviews revealed a chilling story. On the night that Cody disappeared, he was severely beaten in the kitchen (The Charley Project, 2004). At one point one his sisters checked on him but she was told to mind her business and wacked on the head. At some point during the night the girls heard a loud thud and Cody stopped crying (Change.org petition). At this point Rick left on his journey to find car parts. He drove 250 miles in the middle of the night driving from Kittitas to Toppenish, through Yakima, west to Natches, and then somehow ended up in Ritzville before breaking down and having to call for help (The Daily Record, Dec. 2004). Rick bought no car parts that night. Two days after Cody’s disappearance Rick sold his van for scrap metal/ car parts (Chrysalis Chapter article, 2018). Thankfully, police were able to recover most of the van. Due to a mix up at the scrap yard, the van was not towed immediately (Chrysalis Chapter article, 2018).
In early 2005, once Cody’s sisters started giving interviews to law enforcement, a search warrant was issued; they seized Marla’s car and raided the home. In the kitchen the flooring had been replaced without the knowledge or consent of the landlords (Chrysalis Chapter article, 2018). One article also says that a camper owned by the couple was searched. During the execution of this search warrant, police made a “significant discovery” but they have never elaborated on this find (Spokesman Review February, 2005). Investigators wanted to question Marla and Rick but both retained lawyers and refused to talk to investigators unless they were interviewed as a couple together with their lawyer. Immediately afterwards, Marla and Rick got married (Spokesman Review November, 2004). Many have speculated that this was so Rick and Marla could not be subpoenaed to testify against each other, however, spousal privilege only protects you against testifying to things that happened while you are married. The couple split soon after their shotgun wedding. In October 2005 Kittitas police handed over the investigation to the FBI, who still has jurisdiction today.
Aftermath
Neither Marla or Rick ever joined in the searches for Cody. They have never attended vigils for his safe return or spoken to Law Enforcement or the media, except to yell “Cody’s not dead” and “vigils are for dead people” when followed around by the media (Spokesman Review November, 2004). In January 2005, Rick even tried to get a restraining order against the chief of police in Kittitas but it was denied. Eventually, Marla moved to California and Rick moved to the Seattle area. At some point Rick was married again to woman named Mary, before his untimely death in 2019 (Justice for Cody Facebook page). Subsequent interviews with Cody’s sisters revealed that all the children were often beaten with various objects such as a chair by both adults in the home, however, Cody got the brunt of the violence (Change.org petition). Sometimes the siblings were hit with a bucket between their legs so that they wouldn’t get the floor dirty if they wet themselves (Change.org petition). Additionally, according to Cody’s sisters, Rick never visited them in foster care after they were removed from the home (Change.org petition).

Other things
Car parts journey
I am not sure exactly why but law enforcement has confirmed that Rick did travel the 250 miles that night during his trip for “car parts”. I’m not sure how they confirmed this, but it has apparently been proven that Rick’s van was driven 250 miles that night. (The only explanation I can think of is that maybe it was a company car or he had to track his mileage for some reason).
For this part of the story to be true Rick would have taken I 84 south for 60 miles to Toppenish, a small town on the Yakama reservation, then backtracked going north through Yakima on I 84, a whole 21 miles. Then he would have traveled west a few miles to the small town of Natches (Pronounced nah-Cheese), then somehow moved south about 22 miles yet again to get back to Toppenish, go east to Richland so he could mistakenly get on the 395 east towards Ritzville and Spokane finally arriving in Sprague on I 90, nearly 166 miles from his starting point in Toppenish, before breaking down and having to call for help. This is Rick’s account of the night-in case you didn’t already think this trip was bizarre.
Cody’s family
Cody’s sisters, cousins, mother, grandparents, teachers, neighbors, continue to look for Cody and hold vigils for him. Searches for him have been made numerous times, with nothing found but animal bones, and unrelated clothing. Recent searches have turned up no sign of Cody and no trace of him has even been found.
Sources
Some of the sources for this write up are blogs and Facebook pages. Now normally, I wouldn’t use sources like these, but with stories like Cody’s where the information is sparse, this is sometimes the best place for information. Additionally, since this is a case local to me, I know for a fact that the blog, the Facebook page, and the change.org petition are all run by family members of Cody, either his cousins or his sisters, so I was more confident including these sources. I did not know Cody myself but friends and co-workers of mine did. Also, these sources contain interviews with various family membe teachers etc. that you cannot find other places. I just wanted to clear this info up. In fact, one of Cody’s relatives also has a reddit account and has posted here before.
Additionally, while it may seem, there are lots of sources for Cody’s story nearly all the articles about him are mere blurbs in larger stories, or simply re-reported information from the Charley project. Even local news coverage is slim and no new information has not been released since 2005.
Will there ever be justice for Cody?

2020.03.21 17:23 -sup [CONFLICT] Pacific Directive 01 - Wrath of God

Ezekiel 35:8
I will fill your mountains with the dead. Your hills, your valleys, and your streams will be filled with people slaughtered by the sword. I will make you desolate forever. Your cities will never be rebuilt. Then you will know that I am God.
Accompanying Song
The Unity has initiated a strategic nuclear strike on the Pacific Republic. We have not been aggressive towards them, we have not threatened their well-being in any way, our crime has - as yet - simply been our relation to the American Republic. As they say, however, you fuck with the bull, and you get the horns. The Unity has prodded the peaceful and benevolent people of the Pacific Republic too far, and we intend to respond with a complete and utter destruction of their country.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff have approved Wrath of God - the first Pacific Directive mirroring those of our neighbors to the north - intended to redirect essentially the entire Pacific economy and country towards eliminating the imminent threat posed by the Unity's continued existence. The overarching goals of Wrath of God are as follows:
  • Complete destruction of the Unity hivemind and a cessation of their existence as a state.
  • Coalition occupation of the Russian mainland, with significant portions coming under sole control of the Pacific Republic and our seizure of sufficient assets and natural resources to recoup the incredible expense posed by this operation.
These ends will be achieved through the following means:
  • Suspension of all non-essential social programs, non-essential government spending, and other non-necessities to fund the war effort.
  • Vastly heightened military production, leveraging our immense corporate base and utilizing the fear felt by our population as a driving force towards complete victory.
  • Upgrade of all Pacific defence infrastructure and command to DEFCON 1 alert level.
  • Deployment of roughly 75% of Pacific armed forces to the Russian mainland to ensure elimination of the Unity with minimal loss of life.
Ballistic Missile Defence
The Pacific Republic is essentially blanketed by the Fortress Pacific ABM network, consisting of 35 Aegis Ashore Block II ABM systems providing 100% coverage of the Pacific landmass. These installations will be placed on hair-trigger alert level, ordered to intercept any North America-targeting missile flying over Pacific airspace. In essence, we will provide blanket coverage of the North American continent to the best of our abilities, with confidence in the effectiveness of the ABM network near 100%.
Despite Pacific landmass being essentially impenetrable, precautions will be taken to protect the populace in the event of a successful strike. Those located in metropolitan areas are to remain in their homes, in their basements if possible, and ration supplies. Coastal residents will be ordered to evacuate and move inland, as severe flooding is expected should a nuclear strike occur offshore. All Pacific airspace will be closed and flights grounded, airports will be shut down and all borders closed indefinitely.
Phase 00 - Buildup of Troops in Germany
The Germans have granted us permission to begin a buildup of troops in their country. The Pacific Republican Navy will center around Wilhelmshaven as its primary port of operations for the northern front. 9x Henry J. Kaiser-class replenishment oilers will sail alongside 3 CSGs bound for Wilhemshaven, totalling the following forces:
Ship Type Quantity Names
Gerald R. Ford-class Aircraft Carrier 3 PRS Glory, PRS Conquest, PRS Fury
Wasp-class Amphibious Assault Ship 2 PRS Boxer, PRS Hornet

To avoid completely overwhelming the infrastructure at the port, and for the consideration of our allies who may also need to use the facilities, the Pacific fleets will be moored off the northern coast of Germany and resupplied by the aforementioned replenishment oilers, receiving supplies from flights conducted to Germany from the Pacific Republic. The goal of this operation is, in essence, to establish a concrete supply line from the Pacific Republic to the forward forces stationed in Germany.
Transport of troops and equipment will be conducted to Bremen Airport, which will be shut down by the Pacific military for the purposes of conversion into a temporary airbase. Pending approval from the German government, the entire city of Bremen should be evacuated as it may be targeted by the Russians due to its strategic importance for Pacific military operations.
Transport operations will be undertaken by the 62nd Airlift Wing, the 92nd Air Refueling Wing (when aerial refueling operations are required), the 940th Air Refueling Wing, and the 60th Air Mobility Wing, totalling the following forces:

Additionally, each of the Arleigh Burke-class and Zumwalt-class ships will be embarked with 1x SH-60B Seahawk helicopters to facilitate ASW operations.
The aforementioned naval forces will remain around northern Germany, while a further buildup of land forces will be undertaken around the country. They will be split up by location for ease of reading.
Location - NATO Base Geilenkirchen
Due to its physical distance from Russia, Geilenkirchen (hereafter referred to as GK for the purposes of typing) will be the primary center of command operations for Pacific land forces (PRS Fury will be the command center for naval operations, more on that later). The airlift and refuelling wings mentioned above will be used for transport purposes, as well as Pacific merchant marine vessels and other transport options as required. Civilian aircraft may also be used for transport, due to the urgency of these operations as well as the scale required.

Phase 01A - Parry this you Gopnik fucks
The gates have opened. They are riding forth. Oh G_d, it's so beautiful
Military operations against the Unity are historically unique in that there is absolutely no risk of civilian casualties or collateral damage, as everyone within the Unity is tied to the hivemind and must be eliminated. While care will be taken not to directly strike historical buildings and other important sites, we have the freedom to be a lot more thorough with our operations to clear out Unity military installations.
Phase 01 includes the following ships:
  • 2x Gerald R. Ford-class Aircraft Carrier (PRS Glory, PRS Conquest)
  • 2x Wasp-class AAS (PRS Boxer, PRS Hornet)
  • 4x San Antonio-class LHD (PRS Medford, PRS Seattle, PRS Tacoma, PRS Olympia)
  • 18x Arleigh Burke-class Destroyer (RS Aeneas, PRS Aleutian Islands, PRS Aggressor, PRS Agile, PRS Alert, PRS Alarm, PRS Albatross, PRS Alliance, PRS Alligator, PRS Amethyst, PRS Ambush, PRS Amphitrite, PRS Anacoda, PRS Anchor, PRS Andromeda, PRS Angel, PRS Antagonize, PRS Antelope)
  • 5x Zumwalt-class Destroyer (PRS Zigzag, PRS Zest, PRS Zeta, PRS Zodiac, PRS Zany)
  • 6x Virginia-class SSN (PRS Valor, PRS Vigorous, PRS Venturer, PRS Virtuous, PRS Volatile, PRS Vagabond)
  • 2x Avenger-class Mine Countermeasures (PRS Champion, PRS Scout)
The primary targets of Phase 01 will be St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad, as landing operations from the sea will target the former and the latter will be leveled to eliminate possibility of attacks originating from it. The PRS Glory and PRS Conquest CSGs will sail into the Baltic, with mine countermeasures vessels and helicopters scouting ahead for potential hazards. During potential choke points, such as Øresund, E-3 Sentry, RQ-4 Global Hawk and other monitoring aircraft will be deployed to ensure safe passage.
Tomahawk missiles equipped with white phosphorous munitions will be launched from the Arleigh Burke-class ships at Kaliningrad and surrounding area, with the goal of eliminating all Unity life in these areas. Overhead monitoring will take place during these operations to scout out and tag possible strongholds, and thermobaric munitions will be employed against military targets. Destruction of air defences will be prioritized, with F-22s launched from Ramstein ensuring air superiority over Kaliningrad and carrier-launched F-35Cs as well as A-10s conducting air-to-surface operations. No personnel or equipment landings will be conducted at Kaliningrad, with the primary focus being placed on cruise missiles and attack aircraft. Should both these options prove ineffective, W88 warheads (455kt, 14 warheads per SLBM) are authorized to launch from the Ohio-class subs off the German coast to ensure the total annihilation of Kaliningrad, but this is considered a last resort.
Once Kaliningrad can be confirmed as clear, the fleet will move towards the Gulf of Finland, once again with helicopters and mine countermeasures vessels sent ahead to scout for both submarines and mines, ensuring the safe passage of the fleet.
Once the fleet is in place at the mouth of the Gulf of Finland, strategic missile launches will be conducted against St. Petersburg in the same manner as they were against Kaliningrad, with the goal of driving the Unity hivemind out of the city. Bombing runs from F-35s and B-1Bs are authorized based on intelligence gathered from the manned AWACS aircraft in the area as well as drones. The cruise missile strikes and bombing runs will take place for approximately 5 days, after which point a strategic nuclear strike will be authorized to completely eliminate all military infrastructure in an around the city should the conventional attack fail.
Phase 01B - Attack on Murmansk
To supplement the Canadian forces, the ships not deployed in Phase 01A will be sent concurrently with the St. Petersburg attack around Scandinavia to Murmansk, where much of the same doctrine will be employed.
Tomahawk cruise missiles and F-35Cs will focus on targets identified by surveillance, with the goal of eliminating all Unity life in the city. Polyarny Naval Base, in the mouth of the Kola Bay, will be targeted with W76-1 warheads launched from Trident II SLBMs to ensure a swift destruction of the Russian ships and forces stationed there, and Virginia-class attack subs are to engage and destroy and ships out of range of the nuclear strike.
As with Phase 01A, these attacks will take place until it can be confirmed that there is minimal or no Unity presence left in the city. These attacks will happen before the arrival of the Canadian military, and are designed to clear out the city in preperation for a coalition landing.
Phase 02A - St. Peter's Revenge
Following confirmation that the Unity has been driven out of St. Petersburg and the city is now uninhabited, the F-22s of the 429th and 68th fighter squadrons will establish air superiority over the city in conjunction with F-35Cs conducting ground attacks and AWACS providing intelligence. The 11th and 13th MEUs, embarked aboard the Wasp-class AASs, will conduct an amphibious landing operation on the southern shores of the city, near Strelna. Their first objective will be the seizure of Pulkovo Airport, with both MEUs and the majority of the naval aviation wings of the carriers moored in the gulf dedicated to this operation. Deployed ground forces will use this opportunity to convert the airport into a semipermanent Pacific air base, establishing command and control on land and a FOB from which to conduct further efforts to retake the city. The rest of the I Marine Expeditionary Force will make it their objective to reach St. Petersburg, by air if possible utilizing the 62nd Airlift Wing and 60th Air Mobility Wing. The 15th MEU will be brought over by airlift to join the 11th and 13th at the air base, with the remainder of airlift operations focused on the rest of the 1st Marine Division. Within a week, most of the I Marine Expeditionary Force should be dug in and based at Pulkovo Airport. 4 THAAD batteries of the 251st will be brought to the base to provide defence against ICBMs and other possible attacks, while the F-22 squadrons will maintain air superiority over St. Petersburg.
Once it can be deemed safe, and repeated aerial surveillance has deemed St. Petersburg free of Unity presence, the 11th MEU will remain at Pulkovo Airport while the 13th and 15th MEUs and 1st Marine Division will begin moving north through the city. They will fan out through the city ensuring it is free of combatants, supported from above by F-35Cs, helicopters, and A-10s. As it can be confirmed that the city is clear, ships will begin moving further in and the Russian naval bases in the area will be cleared for Pacific use, with ships docking and unloading additional troops. Resupply missions from Germany, linked with the Pacific mainland, will ensure a steady flow of supplies and a rather rapid conversion of the western end of the city into a FOB for further operations.
Phase 02B - Land Assault
Concurrent with the start of the initial assault on St. Petersburg, the ground and air forces stationed in Germany will begin moving overland through Poland, and towards Russia. The III Marine Expeditionary Force will be relocated to St. Petersburg via airlift through Pulkovo, whenever the city and airport are deemed secure by the operations undertaken in Phase 02A. The 15th, 18th, 31st, 35th, and 36th wings will re-base from Ramstein and begin operating out of Pulkovo to support the upcoming land assault on Minsk.
Aerial surveillance and satellite data will be obtained to identify the locations of anti-air installations in Minsk, with these locations being either tactically nuked with Trident II SLBMs armed with W76-1 warheads, or attacked with Tomahawk cruise missiles should the nuclear option be deemed too risky. The goal will be the elimination of all air defence infrastructure in and around the city of Minsk.
The 18th and 35th wings will begin undertaking bombing campaigns of Minsk following the elimination of air defence infrastructure, using surveillance data to identify emplacements and mission targets. These campaigns will continue until the land forces arrive in Phase 03.
Phase 03 - Capturing Minsk
The forces at Celle air base will begin moving east, through Germany, into Poland and finally into Belarus. Once in Belarus, the 81st, 185th, 14th, and 1/2 of the aircraft of the 40th will move towards the north, with the remainder moving towards the south. This represents a roughly even split of the forces moving on Minsk. Those to the south will approach the city roughly from the west, while the northern forces will circle around and hit from the north, approximately six hours after the beginning of the assault on the western side of the city, pushing the Unity back towards the east and ensuring one Pacific division is able to break through an undefended side.
F-35s of the 407th will redirect their bombing efforts towards the retreating Unity forces, boxing them in with an advancing ground assault on one side and sustained airstrikes on the other. This is to continue until the Unity has been completely evacuated from the city.
The separated armies will regroup within Minsk, and begin preparing the city for use by Pacific forces. 2 THAAD batteries of the 251st will be brought in for air defence, and the ground forces will begin preparing the airport for use by Pacific aircraft.

2019.11.05 21:20 jdquey Are you unsure how to get your first 1000 customers? Here is a list of the 12 marketing channels. For each distribution channel, I included proven strategies to help you get your first 1,000 customers.

tl;dr - I'm often asked by startup cofounders three questions:
  1. "What are the different marketing channels?"
  2. "How do I get my first 10/100/1,000 customers?"
  3. "There are sooo many marketing channels. What channels should I focus on first?"
I wrote this guide to explain the 12 major marketing channels. You'll find three strategies/case studies per channel to help you get your first few customers. I then talk about the two types of marketing channels.
Finally, I end by helping you know how to prioritize the channels using the "ICE framework." ICE is the prioritization method used in startups like Facebook, Uber, and Pinterest. I've used it for small startups (under 10 employees) and even a non-profit, so it should work for your startup.
This article was originally written on my website (which you can view here), so my apologizes if the formatting isn't perfect. Got questions? Feel free to drop a comment and I'll do my best to answer it!
Enjoy the read :).
Right now, your startup has one mission.
It isn’t to become the next $1 billion startup. (Though that may come in time). It isn’t to make a difference in the world. (Though you may make a meaningful impact). Nor is it to raise your next round of venture capital. (Though your team may need to do so to complete your mission).
Your mission right now, if you choose to accept, is to find a scalable business model.
As a part of finding a scalable business model, you need to tap the right marketing channels. That’s it.
Of course, that’s easier said than done. What works today may not work tomorrow.
Not too long ago, marketers were all raving about:
  1. Use social media sites like StumbleUpon, Digg, and MySpace.
  2. Writing articles daily on your blog.
  3. Using QR codes to promote your business.
While specific trends and tactics come-and-go, marketing channels will always be around.
If you want to get more customers, it’s helpful to understand each marketing channel. And not only should you know how a marketing channel works, but why it works.
In this article, I’ll share with you the twelve major marketing channels. I’ll then provide a few case studies and strategies for you to test to grow your business.
Note: The book Traction: How Any Startup Can Achieve Explosive Customer Growth shaped much of this article. If you want to become better at getting and retaining customers, I recommend reading both.

Here is a list of the 12 major marketing channels of mass distribution:

  1. Business Development and Partnerships
  2. Paid Advertisements
  3. Sales
  4. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  5. Virality and Network Effects
  6. Community Marketing
  7. Content Marketing
  8. Email Marketing
  9. Engineering as Marketing
  10. Press
  11. Social Media
  12. Trade Shows and Offline Events
Warning: The following advice may lead to insane amounts of business growth. Please consult a lawyer, attorney, or doctor before attempting this at home. Each marketing channel has different pros and cons. Your mileage may vary.

1. Business Development and Partnerships

Business development is often a gray and ambiguous term. Some equate it to sales. Others simply say any partnership is business development.
Here’s how I define business development.
*Business development is creating long-term value for your startup by partnering with anyone in your market. *This includes other businesses, influencers, and media outlets.
The focus of this channel is on the exchange of value through the partnership. This channel also includes partnerships from influencer marketing and affiliate marketing.
The goal of each partnership is long-term value.
It should not be a one-and-done transaction. Sure, you might get some money from your first co-promotion. But the highest ROI comes from finding new opportunities from the same partnership.
As a result, partnerships often are a slower channel to scale.
The partnership may or may not include paid compensation.
Keep in mind the relationship will change if you pay the other person. Further, there may be certain expectations a person has about the partnership. This expectation may also change by industry.
For example, an influencer is more likely to promote a blog article for free. But I’ve had a few influencers request I pay them to promote my article. The same influencer who was willing to promote an article for free may expect payment for directly promoting your product.
Offering payment when the party does not expect it may be offensive. And in another scenario, it’s a delightful gift.
Here are some strategies and case studies you can use for partnerships:
  1. Find similar companies and offer one product as an add-on bonus. Chris Gimmer shares his story on Snappa’s partnership with LeadPages here.
  2. Find large companies that have app directories or marketplaces. First, integrate your tool with their tool. Then submit your application to directories. Examples include Shopify’s App Marketplace, Intercom’s App Store, and Zendesk’s App Directory. This was a core part of the early growth for CartHook and for BoldCommerce.
  3. Put together a product bundle for news sites and conferences. Learn how Noah Kagan did this with AppSumo by partnering with Imgur and Reddit here.

2. Paid Advertisements

At the dawn of the Internet, people rallied around old marketing channels with new names:
  1. Influencer marketing (celebrity endorsements began in the 1760s).
  2. Content marketing (Ben Franklin printed Poor Richard’s Almanack in 1732).
  3. Email Marketing (mail order catalogues began in 1498).
Then advertising began to move online. Old advertising channels like billboards, newspaper ads, and radio commercials are now a thing of the past.
Or are they outdated?
Believe it or not, according to the OAAA, out-of-home advertising reach a new record high of $8 billion in 2018:
Image
I bet you didn't see that one coming.
Paid advertising has several mediums, which I’ll categorize by offline and online ads. Offline ads include TV ads, radio ads, billboards, magazine ads, newspaper ads, and bus ads.
Online ads are also called pay-per-click (PPC) ads. This includes:
  1. Search engine ads (ads on Google, Bing, and other search engines)
  2. Social media ads (ads on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, and other social media sites)
  3. Display ads (banner ads you see displayed on websites).
  4. Media ads (ads and product placements which are in video games, movies, and other media).
  5. Email ads (ads you see when using your email, such as Gmail).
  6. Newsletter ads (ads in email newsletters)
The benefit of paid advertising is if you have an unlimited budget, it’s easier to scale this channel. It’s an excellent channel to test your messaging, get feedback, and iterate quickly.
But as fast as advertising comes, so too it also disappears fast.
There’s a limited window of exposure because ads rent space. Marketing on other channels gives you an asset that stays up as long as you keep them up.
As your ad spend scales, it becomes more expensive and harder to track. In turn, paid ads can also cover up underlying problems.
Andrew Chen, an investor at Andreessen Horowitz, shared how a startup’s paid cost to acquire a customer can be off as much as 2-5 times what it should be. (Source)
Further, you often do not build a relationship with the customer.
As a result, advertising works best for impulse buys or products which offer fast value to the customer.
For SaaS startups, paid ads are often a secondary channel that supports content marketing.
But for eCommerce products, paid advertising is often the first scalable marketing channel. This is because eCommerce will likely sell products which bring delight faster.
Here are some strategies and case studies you can use for paid advertising:
  1. Media outside the home often will not sell every available ad spot. If it’s not sold, it’s a lost opportunity. This allows you to negotiate for remnant advertising. Tim Ferriss has an excellent article on this here. I used this approach to get $10,000 in billboard space for $2,000. If you run other ads, use your successful campaigns to inspire your billboards.
  2. Create a single keyword ad group (SKAG). [1] Run ads to a dedicated landing page on that topic, optimizing the landing page for SEO. This allows you to continue getting traffic after turning off ads and create a message match to improve conversions. I’ve seen click-through rates (CTR) between 1-9% on SKAGs. For one client, after removing the three worst campaigns, all SKAGs were over 3% CTR. Unbounce has an excellent resource on the importance of message match here.
  3. Create a normal social media post and work with relevant influencers to promote your post. Then promote using an ad so you leverage the social proof from the influencer’s promotion. Learn how to work with influencers on my old marketing site here. And learn how to edit Facebook ads and keep your social proof here.
_[1] Unfamiliar with SKAGs? Let’s say you wanted to sell Ultimate Frisbee discs. In one ad keyword group, you would use three keywords: _
  1. _+ultimate +frisbee _
  2. _“ultimate frisbee” _
  3. _[ultimate frisbee]. _
If an unrelated keyword pops up such as “ultimate frisbee rules,” you move it to your negative keyword list. And if a relevant but unrelated term pops up such as “best ultimate frisbee brands,” you can create a new SKAG and send traffic to a new landing page.

3. Sales

Effective marketing is nothing more than salesmanship in ink. While marketing sells on many-to-one, sales specialize in hand-holding customers one-on-one.
Sales is the process of generating leads, qualifying them, and turning them into paying customers.
Now perhaps you’re wondering, “If marketing is effective salesmanship at scale (many-to-one), why should I hire a salesman?”
Contrary to what most SaaS entrepreneurs believe, sales is a primary scalable channel.
First, sales can accelerate the process marketing starts. Without a proper nurture sequence in place, it can be slow moving a prospect down your funnel. A salesman or woman specializes in moving them faster through the funnel.
Second, big customers often need a sales process. When you’re selling a high-end or enterprise product, it’s common to have a salesman giving the customer the red carpet treatment.
*While sales will help speed up landing big customers, it’s not without a major cost. *
Most suggest hiring at least two sales reps. If they work on a team, one will generate and qualify leads while the other closes them. If you favor competition, you can put the two against each other. Two full-time salaries are more than what you’d pay for most marketing agencies.
How cheap can your product be and afford to have a sales team?
If you have a repeatable sales model, a sales rep has three limits:
  1. The number of calls or demos in a day.
  2. The demo-to-close ratio.
  3. How much you’ll pay to keep the salesman.
Jason Lemkin of SaaStr, a SaaS founder, enthusiast, & investor offers this advice:
  • Most inside sales reps can probably close 8-12 deals a month.
  • Assuming a 20% close rate, that’s 60 demos a month, or 3-a-day.
  • If the rep needs to make $80,000-$100,000 in OTE (on-target earnings), and you need to clear $300,000 in revenue to make the math work on your side, at 100 closed deals a year, to bring in $300,000 to the company, each deal has to have a $3,000 ACV (annual contract value) on average.
  • So the straight math says it’s tough to have inside sales reps working on deals under $3,000 ACV or $299/month if there’s monthly churn.
(Source)
But that’s not all!
If you maximize your current leads and play your cards right, you can bring in a sales rep for a $99/month product.
Lemkin continues:
But, still, we dropped the price point (necessary) for inside sales to $99. And it worked. Why?
  • First, if you don’t service those $1,000 ACV leads, you are wasting them. So maybe it’s better to close them that just lose them altogether if it’s not too expensive.
  • Since you’d lose these prospective customers anyways, you can spend more of the ACV revenue received on the reps and not worry about the marketing costs. Because otherwise, the marketing costs would be a write-off. These reps don’t have to be as profitable.
  • You can use this customer segment to train the new reps. It’s cheap training.
  • And most importantly, the really really good reps can actually kill it. Even here. Because they’ll get really efficient, and close a lot more than 10 deals a month. Our best $99/month inside sales reps could triple that rate, so long as we gave them enough leads. You do need a high volume of leads to make this work.
I’m not saying you can build a whole inside sales team around a $1,000 ACV or $99 price point. You can’t. The lowest you can probably go on average is $3,000, based on the math above, and that’s if you are hyper-efficient.
If you aren’t, bump that up to a $5k ACV to account for overhead, waste, turn-over, etc.
Here are some strategies and case studies you can use for sales:
  1. Find people who shared a how-to article related to your product on Twitter. You can use Buzzsumo or Ahrefs to do this. Find their email using a tool like VoilaNorbert. Send them an email and pitch your product. Bryan Harris and two of his students did this to pitch their services, which you can check out here.
  2. Find a list of your competitors. Use a tool such as NerdyData or BuiltWith to find customers who use your competitor. [Send them an email](growthramp.io/articles/email-outreach-program) asking if they’ve experienced common problems with the product. If possible, leverage the names of similar customers you have to the prospect. Nathan Barry did this to take ConvertKit from $1,300 to $725,000 in monthly recurring revenue. Learn how he did that here. More on how to use NeryData here.
  3. If you’ve pre-sold your product, create a customer persona for each person who bought your product. Then use LinkedIn search to find similar people and pitch your product. You can find their email on their profile when you click contact info. If you get real fancy, you can create a video pitch on how your product will benefit them. Learn how Devesh got over $13,000 in recurring revenue doing something similar here.

4. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

If you have a question on how to do something, where do you turn for an answer?
More than likely, you will turn to a search engine.
  • Do you need help changing the oil in your car? You’ll likely search YouTube for a how-to video.
  • Do you want to find how much SEO services should cost? You’ll likely search on Google unless you know a site that has done a pricing survey for you (hint, hint).
  • Are you looking for a book to dive deep into a topic? You’ll likely search Amazon for the right author.
This channel includes traditional search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Most SEO agencies and consultants focus on Google’s search engine because it provides the most traffic.
It also includes popular, but niche search engines like Amazon and YouTube search optimization.
*Scaling SEO can be slower than other marketing channels. *
The key to getting faster results for SEO comes from mastering three areas:
  1. Doing keyword research to find high volume, low difficulty keywords.
  2. Creating the content on that topic which benefits both the customer and Google.
  3. Getting enough links from authoritative websites to be an authoritative article on that topic.
Keyword research helps you learn how often people search for a phrase. It will also inform how competitive it is to get search traffic from that keyword phrase.
In my article, “No Keywords Easy to Rank For? I Call ‘Bullcrap,’” I outlined a simple process to find high volume, low difficulty keywords. Here’s a quick summary of the process:
  1. Do a Google search for your keyword or topic.
  2. Take the first 3-5 articles listed on Google.
  3. Put these into an SEO tool that finds the keywords the page ranks for, such as Ahrefs.
  4. Sort the keyword list by volume.
  5. Filter out keywords not in the top 20 spots. You should also remove keywords with too high of a difficulty score. For Ahrefs, my recommendation is 30 or less for new websites.
When doing keyword research, it’s also important to understand a person’s intent when searching for a phrase. Understanding search intent will inform how long it will take to make a sale.
If someone searches “What is copywriting?” in Google, they are likely looking for basic information. But if that person looks up “copywriting services in Spokane”, they probably want to buy copywriting services from an agency in Spokane.
*Next, you’ll want to create in-depth content to answer people's questions and objections on that topic. *
To do this, content strategists often source ideas from other content. For example, you could:
  1. Go to your customers and list out the questions they have.
  2. Go to Quora and search for questions on your topic.
  3. Go to Reddit and look for articles with a high number of upvotes and comments.
  4. Go to relevant Facebook groups and look for questions people have.
  5. Go to relevant Discord and Slack groups and look for questions people have.
Once done, share everything relevant to this topic. Articles on Growth Ramp often are between 1,500 and 3,000 words.
*After you’ve created your content, you may need some authoritative links. *
Why are links important to improve SEO?
I’ll answer this question with another question.
When you write a research paper, how do you know the information is accurate? You cite your sources. On the web, people cite sources by linking to different pages.
Google’s search engine puts pages with the most relevance to your search higher up. That’s why you want in-depth content. But Google also prioritizes relevant content with more links.
So if an authoritative site like Harvard University or Microsoft cites your article, Google will likely rank it high in their results.
Here are some strategies and case studies you can use for SEO:
  1. After doing competitive research, create landing pages that compare you to your competitors. Potential customers will want to know how you are different from other products out there. It’s one of 10 questions we’ve found customers ask before buying a product. These pages will allow you to educate the customer and add your voice to the conversation.
  2. Create a survey using a tool like Pollfish. Write an article on the original research and promote it. In a 2015 survey by BuzzSumo and Moz, the team found research-backed articles get a lot of traffic and links. This is how Orbit Media got over 430 links in six months.
  3. Similar to what I wrote in “No Keywords Easy to Rank For? I Call ‘Bullcrap,’” you can find easy-to-rank keywords by analyzing your competitor’s content. Plug a competitor into an SEO tool like Ahrefs. Then filter any keywords with a keyword score of 30 or less. You may also want to search for a broad keyword in the results too. Organize the list by traffic, and voila! Instant fast ranking results.

5. Virality and Network Effects

Virality isn’t just when your cat video hits the front page of Reddit or Youtube. It’s about optimizing the time it takes a customer to invite or refer more friends to your product. This is known as a viral loop.
A viral loop happens in three ways:
  1. A customer discovers your product and enjoys it.
  2. This customer then shares your product with other people. Ideally, they share it with your potential customers.
  3. A potential customer buys the product, enjoys it, and shares it with their friends and coworkers.
The more customers who share your product who become customers, the better the viral loop. To measure your viral loop’s effectiveness, you can use a viral coefficient.
David Skok, a venture capitalist at Matrix partners wrote an excellent article on understanding the key variables of viral marketing.
Viral loops are most common in referral systems and network effect products like Facebook and LinkedIn. Network effects occur when there is an increase in value with each new customer using your product.
Virality and network effects are not the same.
Many things can have viral effects without having network effects. Buzzfeed and Upworthy are relentless at improving virality. But that does not mean they have network effects.
And products with network effects don’t always have viral effects. Any of these marketing channels could bring people into the network effect. Facebook used community marketing to get an Ivy League college student to join in its early days. A B2B marketplace might use content marketing to attract their audience.
Unfortunately, while getting free users is valuable, it’s also hard to create viral loops and network effects.
It’s difficult to engineer a viral loop for any product. And virality is even more difficult for SaaS products.
Andrew Chen suggests a viral product should be:
  1. Social in nature.
  2. Has high retention with daily usage.
  3. Applies to many job titles within an organization, so that anyone can use it.
  4. Invites travel through a new channel with a compelling pitch.
  5. Targets extroverts.
Network effect products must have certain features built into the product to create a network effect. At that point, you need to seed the network.
A network has almost no use when no one uses it. How valuable was the fax machine to the first person who bought it? And even with 100 fax machines, if these users do not send messages to each other, the machines were glorified paperweights.
Viral loops and network effects are valuable. The VC firm NFX argues that 70% of the value in tech comes from network effects. Both viral loops and network effects can bring in free customers. The challenge is getting those customers in the first place.
Here are some strategies and case studies you can use for virality and network effects:
  1. Attract customers with a tool that works without a network effect, then keep them engaged with your network. Chris Dixon talks about the philosophy of this approach here.
  2. There are many ways to solve the chicken-or-egg problem in marketplace network effect startups. Here are 19 tactics to try.
  3. To improve your referral campaigns, provide a reward to both parties. Dropbox’s referral program is a famous example of two-sided rewards. Learn about their referral program here and here.

6. Community Marketing

Community building involves building direct relationships with your customers and potential customers. Developing deeper customer relationships can result in increased activation, retention, and referrals.
One challenge of community marketing is not having an existing audience to start your community.
If you don’t have an established audience, you can become a prominent member of another community. Then use relationships you build in other communities to start your community. Forums, Facebook groups, and Reddit communities (called subreddits) are some of the fastest ways to build relationships in your industry.
Building a community is difficult, but the rewards can be massive. Reddit, Wikipedia, and Stack Exchange are startups built on the community they created.
Here are some strategies and case studies you can use for community marketing:
  1. What’s successful in one community will often be successful in another community. Find what top influencers share on social media and adjust it to fit your context. With the right message, you can promote the same message in other communities.
  2. Use communities to promote your community. The Facebook group Client Science promotes its community by writing articles on Reddit. You can check out their articles posted by BenJackGill. This article received over 700 upvotes.
  3. Create a community on a different type of channel for people already in a community. Reddit has many Discord and Slack groups. /startups has a startup Discord server. At the time of this writing, they promote this community at the top of their subreddit. /bigseo has an SEO Slack group. At the time of this writing, they promote this community in the sidebar of their subreddit. You can do the same by creating a community for a subreddit.

7. Content Marketing

When was the last time you read an article online? How about the last time you heard a podcast? Or perhaps watched a video?
Content marketing spans a wide range of mediums. It includes articles like the one you’re reading to infographics, videos, and podcasts.
When done right, content can help you:
  1. Educate the market.
  2. Build an email list of excited customers.
  3. Land publicity.
  4. Build relationships.
  5. Build your brand.
And so much more. Popular venture capitalists like Mark Suster, Paul Graham, and James Currier are well-known because of their blogs.
Further, you always have the content. Once you spend on advertising, that’s it. But you can get customers from content for years to come.
Unfortunately, content marketing often requires knowledge of another channel to become successful. As such, it’s often slower than other acquisition channels. That is unless you have a solid content promotion system in place.
SEO and social media tend to be the two most common ways of getting traffic to your content. Email marketing is also common to get people to become repeat visitors to your content. But you can also create a paid content funnel using ads, an article, and premium content to get an email address.
Here are some strategies and case studies you can use for content marketing:
  1. Want to find content practically guaranteed to go viral? Go to Reddit and search for your topic. Find articles with a ton of upvotes and comments (aim for at least 100 upvotes, or 250 for bigger subreddits). Write a similar topic on your blog, putting your spin on the topic. Then promote it on Reddit and other sites.
  2. Search for “top X blogs” or “best X blogs,” where X is your industry. Offer to sponsor these bloggers money to review your product. Learn how Noah Kagan paid bloggers $500 to review Mint.com from 0 to 100,000 in six months here.
  3. According to BuzzSumo, two types of content that get a ton of traffic and links are research-backed articles and opinionated journalism. If you can’t get enough survey responses, you can use sites like Pollfish for this information. Learn how Orbit Media got 430 links in six months here.

8. Email Marketing

Email marketing is often declared to have the highest ROI for marketing channels.
Image
Not only can you use it to find new customers, but you can also use it to engage (activation), retain, upsell (revenue), and generate referrals.
Because messages from your company are right beside updates from friends and family, email often feels very personal. When done wrong, the email will also make people feel angry, damage your brand, and decrease future email deliverability rates.
Keep in mind it’s also difficult to get a large enough email list to acquire customers. By itself, email marketing cannot grow unless you have some mechanism for others to share and join your newsletter.
But it is possible to start just by emailing a few interested friends. Newsletters like The Hustle, Startup Digest, and Product Hunt all began as emails sent to friends. Each of these newsletters has several thousands, if not millions, of people.
Typically marketers pair email marketing with SEO or content marketing to build a list.
Here are some strategies and case studies you can use for email marketing:
  1. Emails that tell your customers the value they get from your product often do well. Can you estimate the money earned or the time saved by using your product?
  2. Consider running a giveaway to build your list. All you need to do is give away a product, tell people about the giveaway, and collect everyone’s email address. Bryan Harris used a giveaway to get 2,239 email subscribers in 10 days. Learn more about that here.
  3. Advertise on newsletters that are complementary to your product. Chances are if someone subscribes to one newsletter, they would love to subscribe to another newsletter like it. Alternatively, you can do a shout-out for each other’s newsletter. This is ideal when the two newsletters are about the same size.

9. Engineering as Marketing

Do you have a team of engineers? You can leverage their skills by building free tools and products to reach your customers.
This a major competitive advantage because you’re giving something free that your competitors charge for.
Free tools are often easier to market than your paid products. As a result, you can get a ton of inexpensive leads. That said, this approach requires you to market the new tool too.
Some common tools include calculators, WordPress plugins, and educational microsites. You can then collect leads through these tools and get people to buy your product. Sometimes a side project becomes successful enough to be the main product.
Here are some strategies and case studies you can use for engineering as marketing:
  1. From 2006 to 2011, HubSpot's Website Grader was used to grade more than 4 million websites. Learn more about this project here.
  2. Look at your most popular articles. See if you can turn that article into a lead-gen product. Chris Gimmer did this with StockSnap, which he used to launch Snappa. Learn more about how he did that here.
  3. Once you have a tool, don’t overlook other ways you can use it to promote other marketing campaigns. WP Engine has a speed test tool. After you opt-in, it takes you to a thank you page with other valuable resources. You can check it out here.

tl;dr - I'm often asked by entrepreneurs three questions:

Crimson Publishers Indexing
Why is indexing essential?
Indexing will help your journal achieve its main purpose of being accessible to a wide audience.
Being accessible in turn will improve your journal’s reputation as a reliable source of high-quality information in your field.
Database research is the first activity researchers undertake as part of their study, and they naturally look to established, well-known databases. Thus, being indexed in a known database in your field will help increase your journal’s readership.
How does indexing work?
Once a journal is indexed by a database, it is immediately made available to all users of that database. Some databases index titles, some index full articles while some others index only the abstract and/or references. There are several abstracting and indexing services available today. Some are affiliated with institutions (e.g., PubMed maintained by the United States National Library of Medicine at the National Institute of Health) while some are provided by publishers (e.g., Scopus by Elsevier). Irrespective of which institution the database is affiliated with, you will need to formally apply for inclusion in the database of your choice."

Washington State University (Washington State, WSU or Wazzu) is a public research university in Pullman, Washington. Founded in 1890, WSU is one of the oldest land-grant universities in the American West and features programs in a broad range of academic disciplines. With an undergraduate enrollment of 24,470 and a total enrollment of 29,686, it is the second largest institution of higher education in Washington state behind the University of Washington. The WSU Pullman campus is perched upon a hill, characterized by open spaces, views, deep green conifers, and a restrained red brick and basalt material palette—materials originally found on site. The university is nestled within the rolling topography of the Palouse in rural eastern Washington and remains intimately connected to the town, the region, and the landscape in which it sits.
The university also operates campuses across Washington known as WSU Spokane, WSU Tri-Cities, and WSU Vancouver, all founded in 1989. In 2012, WSU launched an Internet-based Global Campus, which includes its online degree program, WSU Online. In 2015, WSU expanded to a sixth campus, known as WSU Everett. These campuses award primarily bachelor's and master's degrees. Freshmen and sophomores were first admitted to the Vancouver campus in 2006 and to the Tri-Cities campus in 2007. Enrollment for the four campuses and WSU Online exceeds 29,686 students. This includes 1,751 international students.
WSU's athletic teams are called the Cougars and the school colors are crimson and gray. Six men's and nine women's varsity teams compete in NCAA Division I in the Pac-12 Conference. Both men's and women's indoor track teams compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Semantic Scholar :
📷
Semantic Scholar is a project developed at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Publicly released in November 2015, it is designed to be an AI-backed search engine for scientific journal articles. The project uses a combination of machine learning, natural language processing, and machine vision to add a layer of semantic analysis to the traditional methods of citation analysis, and to extract relevant figures, entities, and venues from papers. In comparison to Google Scholar and PubMed, Semantic Scholar is designed to highlight the most important and influential papers, and to identify the connections between them.
As of January 2018, following a 2017 project that added biomedical papers and topic summaries, the Semantic Scholar corpus included more than 40 million papers from computer science and biomedicine. In March 2018, Doug Raymond, who developed machine learning initiatives for the Amazon Alexa platform, was hired to lead the Semantic Scholar project. As of August 2019, the number of included papers had grown to more than 173 million after the addition of the Microsoft Academic Graph records, already used by Lens.org.

Sci-Hub is a website that provides free access to millions of research papers and books, without regard to copyright, by bypassing publishers' paywalls in various ways.
Sci-Hub was founded by Alexandra Elbakyan in 2011 in Kazakhstan in response to the high cost of research papers behind paywalls. The site is widely used in both developed and developing countries, serving over 200,000 requests per day as of February 2016.
Sci-Hub and Elbakyan were sued twice for copyright infringement in the United States in 2015 and 2017, and lost both cases, leading to loss of some of its Internet domain names. The site has cycled through different domain names since then.
Sci-Hub has been lauded by some in the scientific, academic, and publishing communities for providing access to knowledge generated by the scientific community. Others have criticized it for violating copyright, threatening the economic viability of publishers, potentially compromising universities' network security and jeopardizing legitimate access to papers by university staff.

World Catalogue of Science Journals :
📷
Following the main thesis of the most outstanding world-famous scholar Maria Skłodowska Curie – “Education should be free of charge and generally available ”, a World Catalogue of Scientific Journals has been created in 2010. This World Catalogue of Scientific Journals, or a list of the most known and prestigious scientific journals, is intended to promote science and education worldwide. The system of science and education promotion as a free-of-charge and generally available offer can be and is presented in the form of an on-line system.
Conditions for placing a journal in the catalogue
Any scientific journal worldwide which publishes the title and English summary at least on generally available websites for minimum two years can be added to World Catalogue of Scientific Journals. Publisher or Editor-in-Chief should propose his / her journal by completing a form in the “Suggest your Journal” tab and send to the Catalogue’s Editors. After checking by reviewers, a journal will be added to the World Catalogue.

Indexcopernicus :
📷
All journals may be registered in the ICI World of Journals database. The database gathers information on international scientific journals which is divided into sections: general information, contents of individual issues, detailed bibliography (references) for every publication, as well as full texts of publications in the form of attached files (optional). Within the ICI World of Journals database, each editorial office may access, free of charge, the IT system which allows you to manage your journal's passport: updating journal’s information, presenting main fields of activity and sharing the publications with almost 200 thousand users from all over the world. The idea behind the ICI World of Journals database is to create a place where scientific journals from all over the world would undergo verification for ‘predatory journals’ practices by scientific community. The ICI World of Journals database allows journals which care about completeness and topicality of their passports to build their citation rates and international cooperation.

While Google does not publish the size of Google Scholar's database, scientometric researchers estimated it to contain roughly 389 million documents including articles, citations and patents making it the world's largest academic search engine in January 2018. Previously, the size was estimated at 160 million documents as of May 2014.] An earlier statistical estimate published in PLOS ONE using a Mark and recapture method estimated approximately 80–90% coverage of all articles published in English with an estimate of 100 million. This estimate also determined how many documents were freely available on the web.

2019.08.12 04:07 rusticgorilla A neo-nazi group is planning on holding a "hate camp" in Spokane, WA this month

Even "blue liberal" states have hate groups. Spokane, in Eastern Washington, seems to be particularly attractive to neo-nazi ideologies. Posting this as a PSA for Washington in specific so more people know about it and hopefully to inspire others to look into hate groups in your area. A good place to start is SPLC's Hate Map.
Spokane police are investigating rumors that members of a militant neo-Nazi group known as The Base are planning to travel through Spokane this month en route to a gathering they call a “hate camp.”
Police believe that if the rumors are accurate, the gathering would take place outside Spokane County.
The rumors surfaced last weekend when Eugene Antifa, a group of anonymous left-wing activists in Eugene, Oregon, posted on Twitter that members of The Base “are flying in from around the country to Spokane” to hold the event.
Eugene Antifa said the leader of The Base, who uses the aliases Norman Spear and Roman Wolf, recently purchased land near Colville or Chewelah. The Spokesman-Review’s attempts to verify that claim were unsuccessful.
The Base is a secretive network of neo-Nazis that emerged online last summer with the explicit goal of plotting and training for terrorist attacks. It is said to share members and ideology with the Atomwaffen Division, another terrorist group that has been linked with killings and has recruited members of the U.S. military.
Vice News, which gained access to one of the group’s online chat rooms, reported in November that The Base maintains “a trove of manuals with instructions on lone wolf terror tactics, gunsmithing, data mining, interrogation tactics, counter-surveillance techniques, bomb making, chemical weapons creation and guerrilla warfare.” Source
You may remember the controversy when Spokane-area State Rep. Matt Shea had distributed a four page manifesto linked to the Christian Identity movement, which called for the killing of non-Christian males if they do not follow fundamentalist biblical law.
The document, consisting of 14 sections divided into bullet points, had a section on "rules of war" that stated "make an offer of peace before declaring war", which within stated that the enemy must "surrender on terms" of no abortions, no same-sex marriage, no communism, "must obey Biblical law", then continued: "If they do not yield — kill all males". Shea acknowledged the document and claimed that it was a summary of "biblical sermons on war."
He later participated in a right wing chat room where he volunteered to conduct background checks on residents of Spokane to help the group carry out surveillance, intimidation and violent attacks on political enemies, including "Antifa" activists and "communists".

2019.07.02 23:01 BigYangEnergy List Of Some Sources To Use When Defending Yang

Alright so basically I've been lurking on this sub since early March but I never actually had an account until just now. I figured that with the whole #LetYangSpeak thing happening and with his campaign finally starting to pick up steam that I should try to contribute here.
Anyways, here are some sources regarding various topics that I think may be interesting/useful. Yang uses a few of these sources as well to support his arguments. Also like I said I just made this account and I don't really know what I'm doing so if I make some kind of weird formatting mistake while making this post, let me know.

2018.04.13 11:06 valstrm Who left the Hatbox Baby in the Arizona Desert?

I got super into the Gary Gatwick case and was cruising around looking for similar stories when I found the case of The Hatbox Baby, now known as Sharon Elliot.
Aged seven to six days, red-haired baby Sharon was found in a hatbox on Christmas Eve in 1931, in a hatbox left 100 feet off the road in the Arizona desert- presumably by sheer chance, as a couple (The Stewarts) and their twin cousins pulled over after their car broke down. She became a big symbol of hope amongst the backdrop of the Great Depression and was quickly adopted by Faith Morrow and her husband, only finding out that she wasn't her parents biological child in 1986.
After this, Sharon began to search for her birthparents and an organisation called "Orphan Voyage" became involved in the case, including Investigator Alice Syman. Reading through the records, they became skeptical of the Stewarts' story. According to the court records, the Stewarts left at dawn on December 24, 1931. They only stopped once, in Roosevelt, Arizona. Alice believes that in either Roosevelt or another city the couple picked up Sharon. After the episode featuring Sharon and Alice aired in 1989, Alice Syman was able to locate the Stewarts and Betty Mansfield (who was traveling with them and her brother, John.) They all remembered finding Sharon, but refused to appear on Unresolved Mysteries because they were offended by the skepticism surrounding the case.
Bizarrely, her adoptive mother had told Sharon that she had given all of Sharon's adoption documents to a friend. When these turned up turned up, including a handwritten note from Faith which stated that her "friend" was actually Sharon's biological cousin. According to this note Sharon's mother was Edna Sherman Roe, who had Sharon out of wedlock at age fifteen. Reports state that Edna died in a plane crash twenty years later in 1951. She has a niece in Tuscon who refuses to be involved in DNA testing.
In 2011, Alice Syman commented on a blog about the case:
"I just came across your post re: The Hatbox Baby. I am the investigator who appeared on Unsolved with her. Believe me, everything possible was done to uncover the truth about the mystery surrounding her. I checked all the facts, got her adoption record opened, spoke to the Stewarts who found her and interviewed the old sheriff (96), who was on duty in Mesa when the Stewart's brought her in. I read all the news reports of that day, got hundreds and hundreds of letters and phone calls after the show aired with never a good clue. The Stewarts were very bitter about the treatment they got from law enforcement after they "found" the baby. They were naturally suspected of fabricating the story about finding her. I have the court testimony of that day. All the principals in the case are dead. Betty Mansfield is dead, her brother, John, died in a motorcycle accident in 1945."
What has me suspicious is that her being six or seven days kind of provides more fodder to the idea that the Stewarts were her biological parents and pretended to find her to cover up that she was conceived before they were married- however I don't really get why they wouldn't just pretend to adopt her themselves if that was the case. So did some teenager in Superior leave her there on a road trip to die? Did the Stewarts kidnap her or pick her up in Roosevelt (in which case... why?) Is she the daughter of Edna?? Was she a baby Betty or John Mansfield had illegitimately and they all conspired to cover it up?

2018.03.07 06:42 wastcentral Public Request : Central Wa Rail Network

Public Request : Central Wa Rail Network
Brief insights:
Why is Washington State so underdeveloped in intra-state transportation options?
The rail infrastructure exists.
I question why the public has not raised awareness and/or interest in developing such a system, and here I propose such a system in Central and Eastern Washington.
First con : The cost is tremendous.
Preliminary investigations suggest an ultimate cost of at least $60b USD2018. (based on costs of Spains rail network over 35yrs https://www.ocregister.com/2012/01/15/spains-high-speed-rail-system-offers-lessons-for-california/) "Since the late 1980s, Spain has spent about $60 billion to build and equip its high-speed network."
See also : Northeast Corridor: Next Generation High-Speed Rail Amtrak officials released a concept report for next-generation high-speed rail within the Northeast Corridor (NEC) on October 1, 2010.[32] Amtrak projected planning and construction of the next-generation high-speed Northeast Corridor line will cost approximately $117 billion (2010 dollars) and reduce the travel time from New York to Washington, including a stop in Philadelphia, to 96 minutes, and the travel time from Boston to New York to 84 minutes by 2040. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-speed_rail_in_the_United_States#Northeast_Maglev_proposal)
So yea, looking at 60 - 117billion USD base cost.
On to pros:
CentralWA Rail would help: out-of state tourists visiting recreation locations, in-state students attending regional colleges and universities, in-state industry employees (Western Wa tech firms, Eastern Wa industrial companies, etc)
It would be powered via current turbine (wind & hydro) w/ future solar expansions, improving the community industrial development and local research opportunities.
Also : Ease of visiting nearby communities for work, education, recreation. Increases public spirit by facilitating travel to regions of interest. With regards to Western Washington, I believe that the development of a substantial rail system in that Region is another target that should be aimed for, but I will disregard it in for now. Upper NE Wa is also left untouched in the map, (potential coordination with Canadian org on a Spokane to Grand Forks route).
I can see that there is a huge economic issue with this grand project, I simply ask why don't we already have such a system in place?
Looking at other areas of the world, I fail to believe that a rail system is not feasible in our region.
Your thoughts?

2018.02.25 15:28 QueeLinx Enumerating the Homeless: Bureau Luddites' Deceptive Software Demo [OC]

29Nov17, the Bureau held a software demo. See PopCount, developed by IBM for enumeration of the homeless, demonstrated 29Nov17 at the Census Bureau https://www.reddit.com/USCensus2020/comments/7glqt2/popcount_developed_by_ibm_for_enumeration_of_the/?ref=share&ref_source=link
PopCount might have been vaporware.
The Bureau does not plan to use any app for enumerating the homeless. On page 107 of Version 3.0 of 2020 Census Operational Plan, dated Sep17, we are told
the decision of the Census Bureau is to use paper data collection instruments for all In-Field GQ operations.
No rationale given. Clearly, the Bureau is more comfortable with paper.
In a recent video, Point-in-Time Census of the Homeless/Sonoma County, https://news.google.com/news/video/AGqj4bjUb28/d_cvvRljr_c23qM?hl=en&gl=US&ned=us we see enumeration carried out with a clipboard. No doubt that choice was made based on available resources. However, automated collection of lat and long would have been helpful.
Another local government, the City of Spokane, chose an app named Counting Us that can be downloaded by smartphone users. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/counting-us/id1073505838?mt=8
See Volunteers to use app in upcoming count of homeless people in Spokane https://www.reddit.com/USCensus2020/comments/804aij/volunteers_to_use_app_in_upcoming_count_of/?ref=share&ref_source=link
Bureau staff are doing so much less than the City of Spokane and other local governments using apps to enumerate the homeless. Census Bureau staff can't even download an app.

2017.07.10 11:00 frenziedsoldierhackd Guidance for a traveler not familiar with Winter roads

Hello Albertian's,
My family and I will be spending Christmas in your wonderful country, but we have some questions about routes to get back down to the US when we leave. We were thinking of going through Portland and across to Seattle before continuing down the west coast.
From some reading though, it looks like our preferred route might not be the best to take.
Here was the route we were thinking of taking
Is this route down Highway 95 ok to do on New Years Day? Or should we be looking for an alternative route that might add another day to our schedule?
